To the Lighthouse

To the Lighthouse

Bonnie has been a dear friend since our middle school days. Years after graduation, we've been busy navigating our own paths in life, with few opportunities to meet. Yet distance has never bred estrangement—true friendship is like amber preserving its warmth, revealing its glow precisely when needed. At every pivotal moment in my life, when I needed support, she would always appear without fail, offering her hands without hesitation to pull me through. I remain eternally grateful for this. It is this very bond that makes me believe even in the darkest of times, light awaits ahead, enough to guide me, step by step, toward my dreams.

One day, Eon received a custom inquiry—it was from Bonnie. She wished to commission a three-stone ring, with each stone representing her daughter, son, and husband, using their birthstones to crystallize the warmth of family upon her finger. We met at the studio for a detailed discussion. Bonnie was as gentle and graceful as ever, but this time, I noticed a newfound firmness shining in her eyes. She told me that when her children were young, she devoted most of her energy to her family; now that they had grown, she was determined to return to the workplace and pursue her own dreams. Therefore, she wanted this family-symbolizing ring to embody strength in its design—not only as a warm guardian but also as sturdy armor, allowing her to feel her family's constant presence while empowering her with poised feminine strength in her professional life.

I understood my old friend’s heart completely. The custom journey began with sourcing the gems: a verdant peridot from Pakistan, a fiery imperial topaz from Brazil, and a velvety blue sapphire from Sri Lanka with the unique hue of a Himalayan Poppy flower. Together, they formed a harmonious yet distinctive palette. For the setting, we adopted a robust bezel technique to highlight the raw beauty of the stones, while delicately accenting the ring with 16 small diamonds—not only enhancing its elegance but also embedding a hidden blessing, as 16 is Bonnie’s lucky number.

After receiving the ring, Bonnie wrote to me. She said it makes her feel the profound support of her family at all times, providing a continuous wellspring of inner strength during those initial steps back into her career. I suppose this is where the deepest charm of jewelry lies: it is not merely an adornment of beauty, but a vessel of emotion and a source of strength.
